NBA Rumors: Orlando Magic Schedule Jeff Bower GM Interview; Hiring Decision Expected Soon, According to Report

Derick Hingle-US PRESSWIRE- Presswire

The Orlando Magic have scheduled a final interview for their vacant General Manager position, reports Ken Berger. The CBSSports.com scribe reports the DeVos family, who own the Magic, have set an interview with former New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower in Grand Rapids, Michigan; the team had previously scheduled interviews with fellow finalists Dennis Lindsey and Rob Hennigan, the assistant GMs of the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively.

The process of finding a GM, which began shortly after the team mutually agreed to part ways with Otis Smith on May 21st, nears its end: according to Berger, the Magic are expected to make a hire "early next week." If true, Orlando would be right on schedule, as team CEO Alex Martins has said he wanted to name Smith's replacement at least one week before the 2012 NBA Draft, which is set for June 28th.

Martins culled the list of GM candidates to three after interviewing several others. As Yahoo! Sports first reported, Indiana Pacers executive Kevin Pritchard withdrew his name from consideration in Orlando after he learned Indiana planned to promote him to GM, while Thunder assistant GM Troy Weaver did not make Martins' cut.
